PALA MESA GOLF CLUB AT PALA MESA RESORT (760-728-5881)
San Diego Golf Course Review
Pala Mesa Resort in the foothills of North San Diego's wine country, is a nice retreat for golf lovers looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Located in Fallbrook near Temecula and right off the I-15, this resort features a variety of cozy guestrooms and suites that are situated hillside, the AquaTerra restaurant, Sushi and Oyster Bar, meeting/conference rooms and amenities such as a fitness facility, tennis courts, swimming pool and whirlpool. The restaurant is considered to be the Best in Fallbrook! Nearby there are a multitude of hiking and backpacking trails, and the beautiful Pala Casino is just 10 minuets away. Stay and play golf packages are available at Pala Mesa. For more info on the resort, visit our page for the property with direct link to their website by clicking here.
The golf facilities include a driving range, short game areas and a large putting green. Visitors staying at the resort have just a short walk to the course and practice areas. There is a pro shop plus snack bar serving hot and cold sandwiches and beverages, and the main resort restaurant is just steps away. Instructional programs of all types are available - a convenience especially for those staying on property.
The golf course has been rated 4 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play, and features tree lined fairways - some fairly tight, that play over an undulating terrain with frequent uphill and downhill tee shot and approaches. Accented with magnificent sycamores, oaks and elms, Pala Mesa is recognized as one of the most picturesque courses in the San Diego region.
The South nine presents significant elevation changes, beginning with the initial hole - an uphill par four, and ending with another par four that plays from an elevated tee towards the clubhouse. The North nine begins gently with a par four and five that play fairly level, before the terrain changes to feature some raised greens and tees on the middle holes. Driving accuracy is paramount, as rows of trees always frame the fairways. The bent grass greens are medium in size and mildly undulating, and were in fine shape on our February 2007 visit.
There are four sets of tee areas that play to distances and slopes measuring 6502 yards/128 slope, 6131 yards/125 slope, 5632 yards/120 slope for men and 134 for women, and 5096 yards with a slope of 128 for ladies hitting from the forward sets. 100, 150 and 200 yard markers are present on the cart paths and fairways, and color coded flags indicate front, middle and back hole locations. There are no water hazards in play, but 64 sculpted sand bunkers are situated near the landing zones on the fairways or serve to protect entry onto the slightly raised green complexes.
Our stay at this resort was comfortable and convenient. The property features outstanding mountain views and though located adjacent to the -15, offers a secluded environment. For more info on the golf course, visit our page for Pala Mesa with direct link to their website by clicking here.
