La Costa Resort - South Course

General information

Omni La Costa Resort and Spa is a world class golf destination featuring impeccable accommodations and amenities on a resort property that includes two PGA Championship golf courses, twenty one tennis courts, and a state of the art spa and fitness activities. A typical day for the Two Guys Who Golf included a round of golf, an afternoon workout at one of the best resort gyms we have encountered, steam and spa treatments, plus dinner at one of the fine restaurants on property, or in nearby Encinitas. The newly renovated guest rooms are extremely comfortable, and provide work tables with free high speed internet, and bathrooms one could get lost in. The Legends Course was completely renovated in 2014 and compared to the Champions layout is more spacious, with smaller greens and less penal bunkering. Under the guidance of the Champions Course architects, Pascuzzo & Pate Golf Design, all 18 holes on Legends Golf Course were thoroughly renovated, while maintaining the classic Dick Wilson-Joe Lee design. The multifaceted makeover includes a complete redesign and reconstruction of all 18 greens, as well as a thorough resurfacing of green complexes, the planting of paspalum turf in the fairways and all-new bunkering. Service is impeccable.

Fifty nine soft sand bunkers are located along the fairways or greenside, and water comes into play in the shape of creeks and ponds on ten of the holes. There are some interesting doglegs, and the terrain is quite rolling. Five sets of tee play to distances and slopes measuring 6996 yards/133 slope, 6587 yards/128 slope, 6135 yards/ 6198 yards, 5640 yards/ 138 slope for women (118 for men) and 4938 yards with slope of 109 for men and 128 for women. As with the Champion Course, the slope ratings are quite high for a resort course - reflecting the challenge available for golfers of all skill levels.

Guests at La Costa have the pleasure of stepping out their door and meandering to the clubhouse, where their carts lead them to the practice facilities or either of the two championship courses. The 4th and 5th photos above feature one of the gorgeous pool areas, complete with luxurious seating and 3 Jacuzzi tubs that afford great views of the property. Nearby is a water slide and several family pools.

We highly recommend a stay at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa! The landscaping around the golf courses and resort property is worth the price of admission, and the service is outstanding. Spend a day at one of the nation's best spas, eat some good food, enjoy a workout, and just relax at the pool areas. We also recommend a day or afternoon at one of the areas fine beaches - only 15 minutes away. There is an incredible array of dining and shopping opportunities in Encinitas - also just 15 minutes from the resort. Ask the concierge for suggestions - they are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. In all our travels, we will remember La Costa as one of our favorite destinations!
